  • Synopsis
  • Rurouni Kenshin – a legend in the otaku world, a mystery of the samurai era, an all-time favourite of everyone who has ever liked samurai stories. There is hardly anyone who wouldn’t agree that Battousai is one of the best, if not the best, stories about the great historical warriors of Japan. Now, almost 14 years after the end of the original series, we are looking forward to see once more an adaptation of one of the biggest and most eventful arcs of the manga by Nobuhiro Watskuki.

I don’t know what more can be said to all of you about this movie, hence I will just be giving you the information – straight and clear.

The story is one which doesn’t need retelling for all of us who have watched the original series and/or read the manga. However, for all of you who still haven’t indulged, for one reason or another, into the vast mysteries and invincible powers of both will and physical strength of the Rurouni Kenshin anime series that aired from 1996 until 1998, I will give a short retelling of what is to come in this first part of the project that is going to return us all to the past when samurai stories were a bigger part of anime than boobs and panties.

The Shin Kyoto Hen is the story of the New Kyoto canon arc from the original manga series by Watsuki sensei. It tells the story of a great battle, the battle between the Manslayer, Battousai Himura Kenshin and Makoto Shishio. As the story will supposedly remain generally unchanged, the point of view will be absolutely different. This time, we – the viewers will witness it all from the side of the Oniwabanshuu member Misao Makimachi – the very skilled young member of the deadly company.
