  • Li Chenggong, boss of a company in northern China, is returning to his hometown of Changsha, to celebrate Chinese New Year with his family. However his routine journey is put in danger when he meets Niu Geng, a young milk extraction technician, who is going to the same city to claim a debt. The cancelling of his flight is only the beginning of troubles that await him.

The two embark on a crazy journey together. Initially Li thinks that Niu is naive and gullible. Upon seeing a female beggar on the street, Niu Geng is touched and wanted to give her money, only to be refuted by Li who calls him an idiot for believing in the lies of the beggar. Niu ends up giving money to the beggar, but the beggar doesn't return.

Li attempts to take the bus to Changsha but he was stopped at Wuhan due to the closing of a bridge spanning the Yangtze River. Li is forced to return to Wuhan and meets again with Niu. Having spotted the beggar, the two go on a fanatic chase to pin down the scam artist. The chase leads them into a peaceful complex and Li goes into the room full of children quietly drawing. The beggar was a teacher who took care of the children. The duo are touched and gives her all their money.

Continuing on their farcical adventure, Niu convinces Li to buy a lottery ticket and to their surprise, they win first prize: a car. They decide to drive the car to Changsha. Suffering from lack of sleep, Li decide to let Niu drive temporarily. Niu falls asleep and drives the car into a ditch. The two frantically escape the car and jumps out of the car in anticipation of an explosion as they see in movies. Nothing happens and they decide the spend the night in the middle of nowhere.

The next day they are able to hitchhike on an tractor transporting chickens. Finally they reach Changsha covered in chicken feather. Li is surprised to find out that his mistress is also in the city to give him a surprise. Throughout the trip, Li has changed. He went from scoffing beggars to believing that truthfulness still exists in the world; he changed from a cold-blooded boss to a real human being. Finally realizing what is important to him, he breaks up with the mistress and returns to his family. He returns the money to Niu and calls Niu his "creditor". Although not his real creditor, what he owed Niu were the lessons he taught throughout the journey and the epiphanies regarding the importance of truthfulness and trust.
