  • Synopsis
  • Five years since the nightmarish murder of his fiancee, detective Yamana Shogo (Shiina Kippei) from Kyoto Prefectural Police’s First Investigative Division returns to the crime scene for the first time in years with the police precinct’s Isayama Takaomi (Terajima Susumu) to investigate a murder case. Isayama’s aggressive investigation methods makes Yamana apprehensive, but Isayama pays no heed and successfully extracts a confession from the suspect through his usual interrogation. Right after Isayama parts ways with Yamana, he gets into a collision with a big truck and dies shortly. Yamana refers the suspect in Isayama’s last case to Tanizawa Kenichi (Watanabe Ikkei) who is the prosecutor in charge. That night, Yamana gets startling news that Tanizawa has been stabbed to death. The murder of a prosecutor currently in office is an alarming matter. With the organisation’s dignity on the line, the police start to investigate the case under the direct supervision of Director Nakamura (Ibu Masato). Yamana, who is paired with Isayama’s colleague, Konishi Koji (Fukikoshi Mitsuru), and secures the suspect inferred from a threatening letter discovered at Tanizawa’s residence. However, the suspect is soon found to have an alibi and the possibility of an early resolution of the case disappears. In the midst of this, Konishi recalls that Tanizawa was the prosecutor in charge of the first case that he had investigated with Isayama seven years ago, and merely 10 days before the deaths of Isayama and Tanizawa, the lawyer in charge of that case was murdered by someone. The criminal in that case was Egi Masashi (Tsukamoto Takashi) who was release from prison one month ago after serving a six-year sentence. Konishi thinks that there cannot be such an uncanny link. However, Yamana takes a look at Egi’s photo and determines that the nature of the case is revenge. Egi has a unique birthmark on his face and Yamana had seen Egi’s face at the scene of the accident on the night that Isayama had died.
