Shaman King is about a boy with a shaman power, who wanted to become a king of shaman. It is an action comic mixes with comedy. If you like One Piece by Eiichiro Oda, you will like this comic, too. Shaman is a person who can borrow the power from spirits by let the spirit take over his/her body. There are many kinds of shaman, and each of them has different abilities. Shaman King is the second comic that was written by Hiroyuki Takei. His first comic was Butsu Zone (Buddha Zone), which also appeared in Shonen Jump. Takei-sensei likes to draw comics that deal with spiritual world and religion. F.Y.I Takei-sensei used to be an assistant of Watsuki Nobuhiko for Rurouni Kenshin.

A high school boy Manta who discovered that he can see the spirit of ghosts. Along with that discovery he saw another boy, Asakura Yu, talking to the ghosts. Those with ability to communicate and control spirits are known as shamans and every 500 years all the shaman from all over the world gather to begin a tournament to decide who becomes the shaman king. As Manta and Yu became friends, the dawn of the shaman fight has begun and their lives will be forever tied to the fate of world of shamans.
